Hypothesis: Motivating forms of compensation tied to tenure and performance would increase retention and employee output. We needed to test our theory, validate it, and build a product that met customer needs.

Design Process

1. Empathize

Paid has a unique offering of payroll with additional benefits that increase retention and performance. We needed to find that balance of high-turnover industries that had the company size that would be attracted to our feature set.

2. Prototype

With solid customer feedback, we developed our branding, style guide, and voice, setting up our information architecture. We wireframed screens, explored UI style, and built our design system. We built a prototype and secured an investment from A16Z with a strong investor deck and demo.

3. Build

With funding, we quickly developed the MVP by partnering with a top overseas firm. Using our Figma journeys and design system, the team built the product while external analysts and designers refined requirements. In just 9 months, we moved from concept to MVP deployment.

4. Validate & Iterate

Our launch saw strong traction in our target segments. Businesses appreciated the value of our free payroll offering along with our differentiating retention bonuses and performance challenges.
